Benefits Of Windshield Tinting

Windshield Tint

Wouldn’t it be great to have something to reduce the glare? Wouldn’t it be even better if that something had the added benefit of reducing the heat and the UV rays that come into your car, particularly on those high glare days?

Well, you should be excited to know that there is something to do all those things – windshield tinting.

But, you may ask: Isn’t windshield tinting illegal? Not necessarily. Of course, you should always check to see the laws regarding windshield tinting in your particular province or state.  But we, at TINTIX, the window tinting specialists of Brentwood, have been doing a ton of windshield tinting lately.

These windshield tints are not to darken your windshield. Rather, they are virtually clear films that pack in many benefits for you and your car. In fact, there are so many benefits to windshield tinting that customers know that it is the right thing to do for their car, and for their own driving experience.

Looking cool is good, and being cool is better. Car window tinting can get you and your ride a little closer to both. However, reducing the amount of light that comes through your car windows — especially your front windshield — defeats the purpose of using glass in the first place. While window tinting might not be as big of deal on side windows, laws vary by state on the degree of tint you can use on your front windshield.

Because the windshield is the way you see most of what’s going on around you when driving, it’s essential that any windshield treatment doesn’t interfere with your ability to see obstacles, signs, and other vehicles—especially at night.
As a result, many states have specific rules for window tinting:

  • How a windshield may be darkened

  • How dark the tint may be

  • If it's legal to do it at all

At TINTIX, our Windshield tinting reputation is on the line, so we make sure our auto tint professionals provide the highest quality work and customer service. You can call us to talk to one of the specialists today.

Windshield Tint Percentage

Different brands will offer different windshield tint percentages and generally, you choose the same brand and model throughout the entire car so that the exact tint color and color fade (if any) will match evenly over the years. The only difference is choosing different percentages on different windows.

Windshield Tint Percentages

If you want a tint your car's windshield, you need to understand the percentages.

The windshield tint percentage is one of the things you’ll have to decide on when installing car windshield tints. This usually refers to the Visible Light Transmission (VLT) percentage, and it means the amount of light passing through the tinted window glass. Therefore, a higher tint percentage means more light passing through and clearer visibility. A clear windshield tint usually has a 90% VLT but it is seldom available because it’s like having no tint at all. Standard tint films usually have as high as 75% VLT maximum offers.

On the other hand, a lower tint percentage means the shade is darker and only minimal light passes through the car’s interior. On the downside, it is also hard to see through from the inside, posing some risks. The darkest tint you can get is a 5% VLT. However, this may be illegal in some states.

Some of the common choices for the tint percentage are 70 percent windshield tint, 50 percent windshield tint, 30 percent windshield tint, and 20 percent windshield tint. If you want privacy, the 20% VLT will do without causing too much visibility issues during sunny days. But at this level, it will still be too dark at night. That’s why a low tint percentage is not recommended for the front windshield tint. Some states may allow this low VLT percentage for the windshield tint strip.

When it comes to windshield, you have a wide array of options ranging from 5% all the way to 90%. The percentages refer to visible light transmission (VLT), which is the amount of visible light that can come through the front windshield. So this means that the lower the percentage, the darker the tint will be.

70 windshield tint

70% windshield tint will help with the heat and UV rays which can damage the dashboard. But it won’t help that much with glare.

50 windshield tint

If you're not looking for darkness, then a 50% windshield tint is a great option for you. It only blocks half of the light from coming into your car but is still effective for keeping out heat and UV rays. It also helps to reduce glare and eye strain, which makes driving much safer.

35 windshield tint

A vehicle with a 35% windshield tint will give you a darker, more appearance but is still very easy to see through. Many people like this tint because it creates a smooth, stylish look.

20 windshield tint

If you're concerned about privacy, you may want a 20% windshield tint. Although you can see through it from the outside if you're up close, it's difficult. This is enough to deter most casual snoops and would-be criminals.

5 windshield tint

A 5% windshield tint is extremely dark, and you can't see through it at all. This is actually illegal in most states but is most commonly used on the back windows of limousines.
